Technology Exposed

UK manufacturer and pioneer in the field of touch technology – visualplanet – will showcase its interactive touchfoil in conjunction with distribution partner Midwich on the retail section of its vertical markets stand at Technology Exposed.

Market leading trade distributor Midwich works with the world’s biggest AV, imaging and electronics brands and their annual Technology Exposed event is widely recognised as the biggest event of its kind in the UK – with over 65 brands and 200 products showcased in the prestigious main Grandstand at Ascot Racecourse on September 17th and 18th.

The visualplanet touchfoilTM – a clear, large format projected capacitance film that delivers touch capabilities to any non-metallic surface – will form part of a demonstration of innovative interactive solutions for the retail sector.

Midwich will exhibit a digital shop front, featuring a rear projection, through window 80” single user touchfoil – laminated onto the inside of the shop window but controlled by the user on the outside. This behind-glass solution offers a superior design aesthetic combined with robustness and reliability.

Vernon Spencer, Founder and MD of visualplanet explains; “The concept is ideal for retail through-window applications as the latest installations combine the immediacy of online browsing with the theatre of a physical retail space for a truly unique customer experience. When combined with the right software, users can view live stock information, leave their details, obtain information via SMS, download details to a smartphone… the opportunities are endless. Not only does this model allow retailers to extend their customer offering, expand brand presence and maximise the commercial and visual impact of their window spaces – but it also provides unprecedented access to existing customers and new audiences.”

The integration of the patented touchfoil with hardware and software – as well as the latest advances in mobile payment technology – enables retailers to create completely customised interactive shopping experiences.

Even without being commerce-enabled, the touchfoil can form part of a solution that provides a powerful interactive advertising and communication medium.

Spencer continues: “Visualplanet developed and delivered the world’s first through-window solution over a decade ago. We are delighted to have been invited to work with Midwich in bringing our product to life at this important event and to drive change at such an exciting time. The increasing adoption of touch-enabled windows and retail spaces will change the way we shop – forever.”

Phil Waterhouse, Area Sales Manager for Midwich, commented: “This latest technology is set to change the face of the high street as we know it. Giving retailers a 24/7 presence, it has a wide range of applications from car showrooms and estate agents to shoe shops and boutiques. We are excited to be partnering with visualplanet on our vertical markets stand at Tech Exposed, where we expect interest to be high.”
